14-February... Death of Captain James Cook...

The English explorer, Captain James Cook who established relationship between Hawaii and the Western World was killed on this day (14-Feb) in the year 1779...  He was killed in the same Hawaii Islands which he explored in the year 1778 in a fight which broke out between the native Hawaiians and team of James Cook...

In the year 1978, US Postal Administration released a 13-cent postage stamp to commemorate the arrival of Captain James Cook in Hawaii Islands, which Cook called it as 'Sandwich Islands'...

The stamp features Cook's ships Discovery and Resolution in the Kealakekua Bay, Hawaii - the location of Cook's arrival to the Island...

This stamp can be collected under the themes:

(a) Sailing Ships...
